The nursing and medical care was good. Mealtimes are wrong - lunch at 1130 and tea at 430 is not reasonable. The ward was seriously overworked or understaffed - the same thing - but staff seemed willing and cheerful though obviously exhausted. There is a MAJOR problem with privacy and confidentiality which is totally unacceptable: the personal and medical information of all patients is discussed by each bed several times a day. I now know the age, diagnosis, mental health status, continence etc of the other five patients in my part of the ward. I knew which ones had been neglected by their families, I knew if they were not to be resuscitated and I even knew the diagnosis and life expectancy of some patients before they did, since it was stated for all to hear that they didn't know yet. None of this can EVER be acceptable practice under any circumstances, and I question whether it is actually illegal. When I stated my concerns to staff and requested that it should not be done I was told that staff also dislike it but have been told by senior managers that they must do it. THIS MUST BE STOPPED.
The care and support provided was good.
Sometimes mixed messages were provided which confuses what to expect and hence incorrect perception. example : providing feeding bottles with milk (warmed up). Some of them provided this and some staff said it needs to be done by the mother herself. ( no access to the kitchen as the milk will be in the fridge, no access to the bottles etc)
The understanding is patients (maternity) can stay as long as they feel able to leave the hospital in terms of pain, mindset (depression)etc. But sarcastic comments are passed by couple of staffs reminding the no. of days being spent in the hospital which is very upsetting. adds to the pain and depression too. It will be helpful If the expectation is set upfront that the patients should leave the hospital as soon as certain criteria is met.
I was called back for another x ray as a mistake may have been in my diagnosis 2 weeks later. Improvements should be made when checking x rays
Good things were friendly staff - and like TV and phone
The chherful and constant care during my 'holiday' was lovely - I did however give them a laugh or two along the way, if I can make somebody, laugh every day, that's my satisfaction. Im leaving my skate board under the bed for the next occupant to use!! Age 76 - No aches or pains - reason is 10 ml of codliver oil
Friendly nurse on initial entrance. Friendly cheerful lady doc when I got seen.
The nursing staff was very good. And look after me very well. And very friendly. The ward was very clean & tidy.
